Acute Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) With Blood Flow Restriction: The Effect of Restriction Pressures
نویسندگان
چکیده
Context : Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) combined with blood flow restriction (BFR) has been shown to improve muscular strength and size better than NMES alone. However, previous studies used varied methodologies not recommended by or BFR research. Objective The present study investigated the acute effects of varying degrees using research-recommended procedures enhance understanding clinical applicability this combination. Design Randomized crossover. Setting Physiology laboratory. Participants A total 20 healthy adults (age 27 [4] y; height 177 [8] cm; body mass 77 [13] kg). Interventions Six sessions separated at least 7 days. first 2 visits served as familiarization, experimental conditions performed in final 4 sessions: alone, 40% BFR, 60% 80% BFR. Main Outcome Measures Maximal voluntary isometric contraction, muscle thickness, pressure, heart rate, rating perceived exertion, pain were all recorded before after each condition. Results caused greater maximal contraction decline any other condition (−38.9 [22.3] N·m, P < .01). Vastus medialis vastus lateralis thickness acutely increased ( .05). Pain ratings exertion higher compared No cardiovascular observed between conditions. Conclusion force decrement perceptual These observations must be during chronic interventions corroborate relationship changes populations.

Background: Aerobic exercise with Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) plays an important role in skeletal muscle adaptation; however, the effects of this type of exercise on mitochondrial dynamics proteins are unclear. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aerobic exercise with and without BFR on mitochondrial dynamics proteins of human skeletal muscles. Methods: Pa...

The aim of this work was to investigate the efficacy of using neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) applied on tibialis anterior in ambulant children with cerebral palsy (CP). The present work was designed as a controlled longitudinal study to compare the effect of treatment with or without NMES applied to 20 ambulant children with diplegic and hemiplegic CP. The stimulation group receive...
متن کاملRole of resistance training with the approach of blood flow restriction in skeletal muscle cell growth
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the response of ERK1/2 protein and muscular morphological adaptations to a period of resistance training with local blood flow restriction. Materials and methods: Twenty healthy male Wistar rats without clinically evident disease (5 weeks old, 120±7 g weight) were divided into four equal groups: control, control with limited blood flow...

Introduction: The objective of the present research was to determine the effect of low-intensity eccentric training with blood flow restriction (BFR) on Hepatocyte Growth Factor (HGF) and myogenic factor 5 (Myf5), in non-athletes young men. Methods: In this study, 20 non-athlete young men were allocated to two eccentric training and eccentric training with BFR groups. Eccentric training progra...
